If surfers are such good life savers, why do they need to be taught ?
Surfers recovering in E-Unit with paramedic after 1975 rescue. At the exact time of the rescue 29 men were lost in the wreck
of the Edmund
Surfers do have
superior rough water ability and the equipment. Many have good life guard and life saving backgrounds and experience. They do not necessarily have the best surf rescue thought process and technique.
The need for
instruction/ training was evident during the 1975 rescue when one more boy could have been saved and one surfer was nearly lost.
