In Memoriam of Margaret Grace Davis

Who departed this life at her home in this city on Tuesday, December 15th at 2 p.m.

Miss Davis was a daughter of Richard R. Owens of Allendale, Ottawa Co., Michigan, and was married to the late John T. Davis in March, 1874.  Mr. Davis had been since 1846 a resident and successful merchant and real estate dealer to this city up to the time of his death in 1893.

Mrs. Davis has been sick for about a year with heart failure and dropsy, and has during her sickness been a patient, Christian sufferer and has received every attention that a living child and friends could bestow.

Mrs. Davis was born January 28th, 1844 at Anglesey, Wales, and came to this country with her parents in 1868, living for some years at Waukesha, Wis., where for a number of years, and up to the time of her marriage she carried on a very successful millinery store.  During her residence here, she by her Christian life and lovely character has made many, many friends who will miss her greatly from our midst.

Mrs. Davis has been a life member of the Womens Presbyterian Board of Missions of the northwest since 1882 and in its work she has at all times taken a great interest.

She has had all the care and worry in the management of the large estate left by her husband, and has at all times shown marked ability as a business woman and has tried to be just and kind to those with whom she has come in contact in a business way, and within the circle of her acquaintances she will be mourned in death as she has been esteemed in life, and her memory will be cherished by the whole community.

She is survived by the following children:  John R., Thomas L., Charles L, and Margaret G. Davis of Grand Rapids; Edward L. Davis of Tacoma, Wash.

Funeral from the house on Thursday at 2 p.m., Revs. Brown and Muilenburg conducting the service.
