12.  September 19, 1985:  Manual Molina, 30, was traveling in his motorized wheelchair with a group of his relatives a few hundred feet out onto the south pier when he suddenly lost control of his vehicle, possibly due from a wet slippery pier surface caused by high water level and 4-6 foot waves.  He veered right, and went screaming in terror into the channel strapped in his chair.  The Coast Guard boat was on the scene in 10 minutes but had no diving equipment to attempt a rescue.
